Re-inventing “KALAMKARI” – A traditional Art Exhibition

Mangalore experienced a pleasant soothing affect like a cool breeze under the hot humid Sun through the relaunching of 'Kalamkari' Art by 13 talents from Mahalasa School of Art. The exhibition was inaugurated in Prasad Art Gallery, Ballalbhag at 11:00 am by the senior and experienced artist Sri Ganesh Somayaji. The inauguration presided over by Mr. Baburao, Director, Mahalasa School of Artist in the presence of Chief guest  Smt. Shashi V Shetty and Purushotham Nayak, principal of Mahalasa school of Art and many invitees, staff and students. Special reference was made on Shri B. P. Mohan Kumar whose leadership and vision made this great event possible.

Mahalasa Art School promoted by Mahalasa Shikshana Samithi (Regd) established in the year 1978,  is the only education centre in Mangalore where a degree course in art is being given.  30 artworks by 13 select student artists studying in the final year of B. V. A course in painting and applied arts. These art students have tried to explore new dimensions with out foregoing the importance of traditional line arts using watercolor, poster colors and apex colors. Themes for the artworks were selected from our epics; mainly the Divine figures with plants, woods, animals,and the decorative lines depict the erotic love. All these students were trained and guided by the lecturer Mr. Mohankumar.
