Varshikotsava – 2018 held with much fanfare in Mangalore




Varshikotsava - 2018, the 15th annual day celebration of  Shree Krishna Gana Sudha was held with much fanfare at Dhyana Mandira, Sharada Vidyalaya on November 11.

Shree Krishna Gana Sudha president Prasad Upadhyaya, office bearer Venkatesh Bhat, Vidwan Yathiraj Acharya, and Balasubrahmanya K inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

On the occasion, batches of students in various age groups ranging from toddlers to middle-aged students presented kritis and bhajans. Shree Krishna Gana Sudha, which was conceptualized by Vidushi Rajarajeshwary Dharmasthala in the year 2003, has over 100 students learning music in the music school. Over 300 people witnessed the cultural event.

The highlight of the event was the scintillating concert by Vidushi Kruthi Bhat, which was the grand finale of the event. She began the concert with Todi Varnam 'Era na pai inta chowka’ followed by the Kriti 'Tyagaraja Swami’. Other main kritis presented were 'Amba Neelayatakshi’, 'Sharavanabhava samayamitera’, 'Pariyachalama’, 'Nidhi jala sukhama’ and 'Krishna nee begane baaro’. As a budding talent, she captivated the audience with her mellifluous voice and smooth flow of her renditions. She was accompanied by equally talented and energetic Trivandrum Sampath on the violin, Sumesh Narayanan on the mridangam and S Krishna on the ghatam.

The Late P L Upadhyaya commemorative award was conferred on Bhagavatar Sri Devi Prasad Alva on the occasion. Mr. Alva is a Bhagavatar in the Kateel Mela and also an alumni of Shree Krishna Gana Sabha. Mr. Alva had learned music in the music school for three years before becoming a Bhagavatar. Late P L Upadhyaya was instrumental in setting up the music school, which has helped hundreds of music enthusiasts in learning Carnatic Music.
